i didnt read all the comments, but this is my opinion right here, this white iphone 4 launch makes absolutely no sense unless apple is planning to let it run for at least another 6 to 8 months without announcing any new hardware.
i suppose the new iphone 5 will only come out a lot latter than speculated and probably the supposed better guts will be a iphone 4 s just with better insides.
why does it make no sense?
The iPhone 4 isn't going anywhere for another year or so. Why does it hurt Apple to release another colour version of a phone to offer more choices to the customer? They are simply delivering on a promise they made last year.
Apple could easily announce a new iPhone in June and it would still sell millions.
Granted I am expecting them to announce something in September if the latest rumours are anything to go by.

And Apple having your address, phone number, e-mail address, creditcard is fine with you? And if yes, why is ok for Apple to have this information but not for the FT?

Would you recommend any of the cleaning compounds to remove the old thermal paste or can I just give it a scrub?

Worthwhile?
In my experience paste can easily be whipped off without cleaner. On the CPU itself I use my finger after touching metal to ground myself. I don't trust chemical cleaners on my computer components no matter how good they claim to be. One wipe with each of about 3 fingers gets it all off. Make sure you wash your hands before and after doing that.
For the heatsink I would use a kleenex made just slightly damp with warm water. The dampness should be so minimal that you can't even squeeze one drop out of it. If any faint bits are left on the chip itself you can use the same barley damp kleenex technique. Do both with the kleenex folded into a small square and be sure to use very little force on the CPU. I have been doing exactly this for years.

That's a crock - you and most who have any sort of idea about what's going on know it.
They would not be spending so much time doing everything they can to stop the possibility of jailbreak if they didn't care "Jasus" is jailbreaking.
Despite what anyone wants to argue, jailbreaking means piracy to those who care at Apple - plain and simple.

I'm still holding out hope for a bombshell at MWSF this January. Vista will be all but released. Apple's excuses for not announcing will have dried up and it will be put up or shut up time. I've been getting "Call Failed" on about 25% of my phone call attempts since 4.3.1. It's really, really annoying.

How do we know that the extendable text box might not become an overlay of the page that wouldn't damage the design? As you tab out or deactivate the box, it shrinks back to size. I'm sure this design has been thought through more in Cupertino than most people have spent here in the past hour.

I realize that you didn't question the legality but another poster (that I originally quoted) did. I am aware that the buyer will not be required to pay, and he shouldn't be. I just can't stand people that automatically declare something illegal because they think it is wrong. It seems to be a common practice these days.

I think the keynote was a bust. Waaaaaaaaayyyy to much time spent on the frickin' iPhone, and I'm the perfect demographic for it. My iPod 4Gen just died, and my Samsung Cingular cell is on the fritz, but there is no way in hell I'm paying $600 for a nano/phone combo. 8gig is not enough space, especially when you start putting any video content on there. Thanks Steve, I'll pass...:confused:

I see tablet as a perfect tool for photo manipulation. Adobe should really push in this direction aggressively. To create a usable, not over complicated UI, tools optimized for finger touch, and with the power of original PS.

I'm surprised no one has mentioned Lacie's SilverKeeper (http://www.lacie.com/silverkeeper/). It works very well for backups; basically syncing your folders with the backup version (on your iPod, or your FireWire drive, or wherever). Unlike CarbonCopyCloner it removes files from the backup that are no longer on the source, and it only copies the files that have changed. Also it'll let you keep multiple copies of the backups.
Yeah...but doesn't Retrospect (http://www.dantz.com/en/products/mac_desktop/index.dtml) do the same thing but better?
